What are Assisteens®

Assisteens® is the teen auxiliary of Assistance League San Pedro-South Bay which provides volunteer service and leadership opportunities for young gentlemen and ladies, 7th – 12th grades.  The organization’s purpose is to support the chapter and fulfill unmet needs throughout the community.  Assisteens® facilitate members’ sense of community responsibility, self-reliance, personal responsibility, poise, public speaking, and leadership skills.
 
Assistance League is a national nonprofit organization founded in 1919.  The San Pedro-South Bay Chapter of Assistance League was founded in 1936 and is one of 120 chapters throughout the United States.   Currently, there are Assisteens Auxiliaries operating in 12 states which positively impact the lives of over 1.4 million children, seniors, families, and others in need each year.

Community Service

Assisteens® are required to complete 50 service hours each year.  Many of these hours are completed through group activities and community service events.  Most Assisteens® exceed the number of required volunteer hours each year through additional service to local organizations.  Members completing 125 hours or more in addition to the stated requirements, are awarded the prestigious Angel Award during the annual Installation Luncheon.  Assisteens® is also a certifying organization for the President’s Volunteer Service Award and applies for the award annually on behalf of the members that qualify.

Leadership

For those Assisteens® seeking leadership opportunities, the Assisteens® Governing Body offers various officer positions each year.  Additionally, there are a number of committees for which Assisteens® can volunteer to expand their participation as well as their organizational and planning skills.

    Would you like more information about joining our organization?   Are you interested in participating in Assisteens®? Please email us for more information. We host two Get Acquainted Events in late January and early March. Applications for membership are accepted in March on a first come, first serve basis and priority is given to those who attended a Get Acquainted Event.  Membership is limited by the size of our meeting space and in order to keep a balanced membership, we limit the number of Assisteens® per class.  New members are notified early April.
